Wu Tao Dance and Dance for PD – A Match Made in Health and Heaven!

As many as 1,000,000 people have Parkinson’s Disease in the US alone. As of now, there is no way to cure or reverse this neurological, degenerative disease. Despite the lack of cure, there is a great way to manage and maintain one’s wellbeing and that way is through dance!

I had the enormous good fortune of guest teaching at Dance for PD, a collaborative, dance-based program for those with PD two weeks ago at the beautiful Mark Morris Dance Group’s studios in downtown Brooklyn.

Teaching Wu Tao is a great passion for me and bringing this wonderful modality to such a beautiful group of people was both heart opening and mind blowing. Parkinson’s Disease is such a tricky disease in that compromises balance, coordination, flexibility and full freedom of movement. To offer those diagnosed with it an afternoon of movement, play and breath was an incredible experience for me, affirmed in turn by the dancers who came up to me afterwards to thank me for the class.

To anyone curious about this excellent program, please visit http://danceforparkinsons.org/– they have classes all over the world and I highly encourage everyone to check it out and spread the word of this great work. Thank you to David, Maria and the Dance for PD staff for having me as a guest teacher and I look forward to continuing to work with folks of all abilities and wellness levels!
